Gobryas

Another character from Epic of Cyrus. Name and tribe taken from history as the man who would lead Cyrus to victory in Babylon. Seems a bit odd in his design, but I did some research. This was apparently how his people looked. I wouldn't have designed him like this otherwise. Also the mark on him is Persian script for "slave".

Gobryas was born to a tribe of people in Gutium. The Gutians were generally a warlike people, but tended to remains in their lands at the foot of the Zagros (for the most part). His father was a horseman and his mother was a seamstress and he was trained to ride before he could walk. Then the Medes attacked. His parents were slain, but he was captured. Astyages, emperor of Media, thought he would be better as a servant than a corpse, branding the young Gobryas with the mark of slavery and gave him to his son-in-law, Cambyses of Anshan. He would remain a slave in the Persian King's household until the holy man would come with a young boy who would change everything.

As a youth, Gobryas was rather restrained and formal, referring to Cyrus as "young master" due to his time as a slave. However, Cyrus repeatedly insisted on him behaving like a free person, giving him energy and zest for life that he didn't know for years. Becoming Cyrus' friend helped free him to be who he wished to be. As a grown man, he's a decisive, energetic man who tends to help Cyrus come up with good strategies on the fly. He becomes one of Cyrus' best generals and closest friends, supporting his desire for people to live in peace and, by extension, remove slavery from the Persian Empire. He prefers fighting with spears.
