Death Battle: Flash vs. Sonic

Zornac: The combatants are set and the arguments have been considered. It's time to settle this debate once and for all...

Steel and Emma: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!!!

Central City...

It was a lovely, spring day in one of the most iconic cities in the DCU. This city was protected by a crimson speedster. The people of the city were used to some streak going across the city. What they didn't expect was a blue streak.

“Well, new place to visit, and a new place to run.” said a voice as the light climbed up the nearest building to look over the city.

Elsewhere, a streak of red light went across the city, keeping it safe. There weren't any issues with the Justice League and The Rogues were keeping a low profile, so this was just routine patrol. His costume was a shade of bright red, had gold lightning bolts on the sides of the head and an iconic lightning-bolt symbol on his chest. This was Central City's renowned guardian, who moved so fast that you could barely see him, known throughout the world as The Flash.

His observation of the city came to a halt as he noticed a blur of blue light. He slowed his vibration and looked through the city, seeing it come to a halt.

“Hmm...new meta in the area?” he asked himself, “Should see if he's on the level.”

He ran after the streak.

At the top, the source of the streak ran down and began running alongside the Flash. It wasn't a person. Instead, it was a blue, anthropomorphic hedgehog with bright, green eyes, gloves, and red and white sneakers.

“Hey, you're pretty fast.” Flash said, “You new in town?”

“Yeah, I am.” Replied the hedgehog, “But there's one problem—I'M the fastest thing around, so you going at this speeds is kind of a damage on my rep.”

“Ah, I see.” Flash said, “Your solution?”

“We fight for it.” the hedgehog grinned.

“Hm, sounds fun.” Flash said with a smile, “It's been a rather slow day anyway. So...your name? I'm The Flash.”

“Me?” The hedgehog asked as they screeched to a halt in a clearing. He folded his arms and said, “I'm Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog!”

FIGHT!

In a blur of motion, the two ran at each other. Flash threw a punch down, but Sonic slid under it and put his foot out in a sliding kick. This blow knocked Flash's leg out, sending him tumbling through the air. However, he got to his feet almost instantly.

Flash sped to a further distance as Sonic was right behind him. The crimson hero halted, turned, and began to spin his arms around. Vortexes flew out like small tornadoes at the hedgehog, who halted and flew into the air with a loud BOING noise, a red platform on a spring appearing just where he had been standing.

“Not as weird as a talking gorilla, but up there.” Flash shrugged, running past as Sonic made a drop-kick.

Sonic curled into a ball and then spun directly at Flash, who began spinning his arms again, sending the vortexes at the hedgehog. The vortexes caught the hedgehog and threw him into the air. Flash then began to vibrate really fast. He took off into the air after the ball as Sonic uncurled and spotted Flash flying after him.

“Heh, looks like the red guy's got some tricks after all.” Sonic said, “Well, I've got some up my sleeve, too!”

Sonic curled into a ball and flew at Flash in a homing attack. The strike hit Flash square in the face and sent him at the nearest building. He saw it coming and began to vibrate even faster. The result was that he passed right through the atoms that the building was composed of, landing smoothly on the other end. He turned and began running through the city.

“Keep your thoughts together, Barry.” Flash said to himself, “Look at what you've been given...”

He heard something approaching and jumped over it as a fireball narrowly missed him. He saw that it was Sonic, surrounded by a bright red shield that had blurred lines slowly pulsing across it.

“Flame Shield!” Sonic grinned, “Just picked it up.”

“Really?” Flash asked as he began closing the distance, “How about I see how the shield holds up, then?”

While looking at Sonic, he swung a kick around and the shield burst.

“Not much of a shield, is it?” Flash asked.

Sonic's response was to fly at Flash in another homing attack. Flash blocked by crossing his arms like a football player taking a blow. Sonic immediately uncurled and began delivering a series of kicks to Flash, who took them all. Sonic then grabbed the hero by the midsection and tackled him to the ground, curling into a ball and spinning directly on his chest. Barry yelled as they slid across the ground before coming to a halt.

Their fight had taken them from Central City all the way to Metropolis. Flash kicked Sonic off him before the hedgehog took off running again, Flash in hot pursuit. Shortly afterwards, Superman flew over.

“Could've sworn I saw something.” The Man of Steel commented.

Still in their race/fight, Sonic and Flash were running in a zigzag pattern across the country, changing directions to dodge civilians or to deliver an attack to each other. Flash began thinking as he dodged another spin attack from Sonic.

“You're fast, but I've been holding back.” He said, playfully, “Let's see what happens when I take things up a notch, eh?”

“Bring it!” Sonic grinned.

Flash began increasing his speed as he began running south. Sonic began running after him, catching up by going into a figure 8 run.

“See? No problem!” Sonic said.

“Nice.” Flash said before jumping, turning around and flying at Sonic, grabbing him by the head and hurling him away. He landed and began spinning his arms, sending more vortexes at the hedgehog and sending him further away. In the blink of an eye, he was right next to the hedgehog and threw him to the ground somewhere in a desert. Sonic hit the sand with a FWUMP.

The hedgehog got up and waited for Flash to show up. He curled into a ball and began spinning, digging under the sand.

Flash ran over, looking for the hedgehog.

“Huh, where'd he go?” he asked.

His answer came when the hedgehog burst out of the ground in a ball, Flash narrowly dodging. The two charged at each other, colliding and sending a barrage of blows at each other. Eventually, Sonic landed a punch on Flash's jaw, sending him off. Flash got to his feet.

“Boy, you can take a lot of damage.” Sonic said.

“I heal quick.” Flash replied before charging at Sonic, who took off.

Their fight eventually led them to the coast, where Sonic halted and made a sharp turn.

“Why'd he change course?” Flash thought to himself, “Maybe he doesn't like getting his fur wet? Or maybe it's his weakness? One way to find out...”

Flash followed Sonic and caught up, bright crimson catching up to light blue. He threw a punch at Sonic, who dodged. He kicked at Sonic, who jumped over the strike and spun a kick around before going into a homing attack. Flash then jumped over and dropped a kick on the hedgehog, who ran away from it. The crimson speedsters response was to send more vortexes, which Sonic evaded. At that point, Flash heard a rather audible rumbling.

“Moment, please.” He said, darting off. A second later, he was back, finishing up a box of Chinese noodles. He tossed it away with a simple, “There, now, where were we? Oh yes!”

Flash ran at Sonic, punching the hedgehog in the gut before hurling him at the water, flying over to kick him into it.

Sonic yelled as he was pushed beneath the waves of the ocean. He couldn't breathe...couldn't swim. He saw a container and broke it, releasing a Bubble Shield. He sighed as he could breathe again. He hit the seabed and walked through the water, albeit at a slower pace as he saw a crimson streak go over the water.

Flying over the ocean, Flash looked down.

“Maybe I went too far...” he said, concerned.

With another loud BOING, Sonic burst from the water and delivered another homing attack, knocking Flash out of the sky. Just before he touched the water, he put his foot down and began to run.

“Hey, that's no fair!” Sonic shouted as he fell into the water and began running through the water again.

In Central America, Flash came to a halt and turned around, waiting for the hedgehog. His answer came as a blue ball burst from the water in an arching formation, landing with a chop-kick. Barry blocked it and delivered a punch, knocking through the bubble shield. He then took off running as Sonic joined him, going up and down the Americas, confusing everyone in their path.

As they continued running across the two continents, exchanging blows, Flash decided to up his speed, leaving Sonic in the dust.

“HEY!” Sonic shouted, “I'M NOT DONE YET!”

At that point, seven multi-colored gems appeared around Sonic.

“HERE, I'LL SHOW YOU!” he shouted, his fur turning gold as his eyes turned bright red.

Flash was continuing to run across the world, but a light distracted him. He covered part of his face...and something slammed into him. He tumbled across the landscape of South America before coming to a halt somewhere in Canada. He looked as Sonic flew up to him.

“Well, this'll be interesting.” Flash said.

“Yeah, NOW it's a challenge.” Sonic smirked.

The two charged at each other, becoming streaks of red and gold. Flash delivered a punch, which didn't seem to phase Sonic. Sonic, on the other hand, went into a homing attack and hit Flash with what the hero assumed getting hit by a cannonball must feel like (not that he had experience with that or anything). Flash was sent all the way to Manchuria, slamming into the wasteland. He got up and began panting.

“So, he's got a bit more kick to him than usual.” He said, “Well, maybe I'll have to up the ante a bit, myself...”

Flash began vibrating his fists to their fastest possible way. Super Sonic flew over the horizon and roared as he pulled his fist back. Flash sped at him, throwing his fist out as hard as he could. The two blows collided...

The resulting impact sent them both flying in opposite directions, across the planet. They eventually collided in the central part of the United States, slamming back-to-back before falling to the ground, getting up, and wheeling over to look at each other. Sonic's fur and eyes returned to their normal colors, looking no worse for wear.

“That was fun!” Sonic said.

“Yeah, we should do it again sometime.” Flash said.

The two exchanged no more words as they ran at each other, throwing more punches and strikes at each other. Eventually, they started running around each other so fast that civilians thought a cyclone was forming. The two then took off, eventually (almost literally) running into each other. Sonic went into another spin-dash. Flash held up his hands, however, and caught the ball. He began to vibrate extremely fast as lightning began to escape Sonic's ball form and he threw him to the ground. Sonic yelled as he uncurled.

“That was weird.” He said, “Now, where were we?”

Sonic made to run off, but it went at a...slow pace.

“Wait, what's going on?” he asked, looking freaked.

“Oh, yeah. I kinda stole your speed.” Flash said, nonchalantly.

“OH NO!” Sonic yelled as Flash ran at him and kicked him in the gut, sending the hedgehog hurtling into a building. Flash flew over, caught him, and kicked him into the ground. Sonic slammed into the ground and screeched across it. When he came to a halt, he was out like a light.

“Don't worry.” Flash said, picking up his unconscious form, “Your speed'll come back eventually. I haven't had a fight like that in a while. We should do it again sometime!”

He darted off to leave the hedgehog safe somewhere else.

Steel: Well, it didn't end in a death, but still better ending than Question vs. Phoenix...

Zornac: Indeed. Though Sonic had an advantage in fighting style, Flash had him beat when it came to speed and variety of powers, being able to heal without a super form, phase through objects, and even match his Super Form in the form of the Infinite Mass Punch. Also, Barry's job as a forensic scientist would make him observe what would happen in what situation while Sonic's more brash and impulsive. This means that Barry would observe his enemies during a fight and figure out how to defeat them easily.

Steel: Sonic, on the other hand, is just run and spin until enemy goes down.

Emma: Add that to the fact that Flash has fought and dealt with enemy speedsters in the past like Professor Zoom, who can actually go faster than him, and Sonic really stood little chance.

Steel: And Flash's ability to steal other peoples' speeds pretty much clinched the match. But hey, at least he's a good winner.

Emma: So, Flash won this fight in a...FLASH!

Zornac: The winner is The Flash.

THE FLASH:
+Faster than Sonic
+Able to siphon speed away
+Has dealt with other, faster speedsters
+Has more variety of attacks with speed
+Better observation means he can plan while fighting
=Can match Sonic's Super Form with Infinite Mass Punch
-Less skilled in hand-to-hand combat

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG:
+Better combat training
+Has more direct combat experience
=Super Form just as fast as Flash
-Slower
-No resistance to Flash's other powers
-Brash and impulsive nature means he wouldn't stop and think

Steel sighed as Zornac and Emma left.

Steel: Well, that was fun...but what were Bella and Question doing on their day off?

Steel walked in to see Bella playing the Wii U.

Bella: STUPID BLUE SHELL! I WAS SO CLOSE TO WINNING! Eh, it's Steel's profile, anyway.

Steel: YOU WERE PLAYING ON MY-

At that point, Question's voice came from Steel's room.

Question: Ah-HA! As I suspected...Steel's collecting Disney Infinity figures!

Steel: AGH! YOU LOUSY-

The faceless vigilante walked out at that point.

Question: Oh, is the Death Battle over? Well, why not announce the next one instead of complaining?

Steel: I swear, I'd murder you both if I could...AHEM...
