DC Rebirth Brilliance (SPOILERS)Okay, there is a spoiiler for DC Rebirth here, so you are warned. Okay...here's the thing:
Dr. Manhattan was behind the New 52. He's why certain events had occured, he caused many of hte events that happened in it, including a sort of 10-year gap that was lost for the heroes, making them novices instead of legendary heroes. He used Pandora and Flash to recreate the universe after Flashpoint. But why? Not sure yet, but I do see what they are going for:
They are deconstructing this phenomenon started by these two comics:
The grim and gritty stories that started with these two comics; Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen, created by Frank Miller and Alan Moore respecitvely. The DC Brand has become darker thanks to htese stories and people had mostly accepted it...but why?
Geoff Johns, when making Rebirth, wishes to bring back optimism and hope back into DC Comics coming with with Rebirth. And honestly, given the ending of Watchmen, it kinda makes sense that Jon Osterman was used:

With this, my thinking went from "This is dumb" to "It's dumb, but a REASONABLE dumb". I'll probably look into the comic eventually because it seems to breathe the one aspect that I think is vital to superheroes as a genre--hope. Grant Morrison had this to say about superheroes that actually made me love the genre even more because I saw the reasoning in it and completely embraced it.
